HISTORY WILL BE MADE
Maple Leafs are NNL Champions
In a historic run, the Maple leafs have won the NNL XII Cup, the first Championship win for the coach's career. Despite narrowly making the playoffs as an 8th seed, the Leafs battled through 3 gruelling series in a stacked Eastern Conference, only to face off against the defending champions. In the Cup clinching game, play was tight as ever, with the Coyotes desperate to keep it going. Shane Doan would put Phoenix up a goal, but late in the 2nd, another good bounce found JVR who would roof the puck over Smith to tie it. With 2 minutes remaining in the 3rd, under deafening chants of WE WANT CUP, Phil Kessel over came the odds and seized the moment, setting up Lupul and then scoring the rebound goal to put Toronto up. The coach had a few words to say before being heading off to celebrate with the Cup and his players, "Great season everyone, and hats off to the Coyotes. Without our fans at our side, this would not be possible... Its great to have the Cup back where it belongs!&q... MORE

1 WIN AWAY
TML on verge of greatness
In a crazy turn of events, the Maple Leafs found themselves up 2-0 in the series, and just now arriving at their home arena. Yonge street was absolutely gridlocked, and fans were glued to their seats all over Canada to watch the nationally televised game. In the first period, the Coyotes played well, and Mark Stone put the away team up 1-0. In the 2nd frame the Leafs caught a break as Kadri got behind the defense to tie it up, and JML would float a wrist shot on net, where Grabovksi was waiting to pounce on the loose puck. The coyotes were not discouraged as they tied it up again just minutes later. The 3rd was back and forth, Reimer making brilliant stops and Smith as well. With 13 minutes left, the Leafs storied run would take a big step. Tyler bozak would feed Kessel in front, but the puck careened off a defender in front, right back to Bozak. With the wide open cage, the Leafs center scored the go-ahead goal, and the crowd eruped with chants of WE WANT CUP for several minutes. Reim... MORE

Leafs Rally
Kulemin shocks PHX late
After taking home ice from the Coyotes, the Leafs were prepared for a different Coyotes team in game 2. That would certainly prove the case, as teams were locked in a stalemate in this one. For 40 minutes we went back and forth, the Coyotes forcing 2 breakaways on Riemer but each time the Leafs goalie was up to the task. In the 3rd period Nikolai Kulemin played hero for Toronto. The big winger set up Joffrey Lupul for the ice breaker 1 minute into the 3rd. He would put Toronto up by 2 minutes later, and although the Coyotes Stone would cut the lead to 1, James Reimer stood on his head and shut the door to shock the Coyotes fans and take a 2-0 series lead back home to Toronto.

FIRST BLOOD
Kessel nets the GWG
And then there were two.... The Maple Leafs and Coyotes finally kicked off the NNL's premier event, the Cup Finals in Pheonix, AZ. James Reimer squared off against Mike Smith, and both played great in the series opener, just one happened to get the better end of the stick. In the opening period neither team could score but in the 2nd frame, after goals from either side, Phil Kessel broke the game open on a breakaway goal to go up 2-1. In the 3rd hte Leafs played shut down defense in front of Reimer, and managed to hold on, potting 2 more goals to go up 1-0 in the series and steal home ice from the desert dogs.

LEAFS WIN!
Thrilling series had to end
Leaf fans from around the world rejoiced and partied it up on Yonge street last night, as their beloved Maple Leafs defeated the Buffalo Sabres 3-0 in game 7 of the Conference Finals. "Even though the game was in Buffalo, we sold out the ACC just to watch the jumbo-tron" said one very intoxicated fan. After being beaten up in Toronto in Game 6, the Leafs got exactly the start they were looking for in Buffalo, scoring just 2 minutes in on a Lupul deflection. The Leafs MVP of the series, Lupul, would score again in the 1st period, a perfect one for Toronto. With the momentum on their side the Leafs were awarded a powerplay, when Cody Franson served it up for Dion, who would drive it home off a body in front. James Reimer was perfect, always there to make the saves down to the buzzer, before being mobbed by his teammates. GG, GS cole

Sabres Force Game 7
With A Blow-Out
With Their playoffs lives on the line, the Sabres came out hard but only managed one goal in the 1st as Scott was in the slot and lost control of the puck but quickly found it again and fired it past Reimer for the lead. In the 2nd Foligno would tally a pp goal midway through the period to take the lead to 2. In the 3rd the Sabres would light the lamp more times than Hayden Panettiere has had boyfriends. It started with Foligno getting his 2nd of the game midway through the period and Gerbe would follow up shortly after. Scott would register his 2nd of the game as the puck deflected off him and past Reimer. Toronto would finally end Miller's shutout with 2:52 left in the game as Grabovski sniped the corner. Ott would finish things off with a fine passing display between him and Vanek.

Coyotes Advance to NNL Finals
GM Tyson Looking For Repeat
Throughtout the first 3 wins from the Coyotes in this series it had been the same stories, Mike Smith was great and there was always 1 period where the Yotes flicked the switch and scored totals of 5; 4; 4 in respesctive 20 minute frames. The Wild knew they couldn't allow one of those crazy periods in game 5 or they would be sent to the golf course.Through 1 period, the game was scoreless and the Wild controlled the tempo for the majority of the frame. Minnesota then jumped out to the lead midway through the 2nd on a goal from Matt Cullen on a breakaway, and looked like they were heading into the 3rd with the lead until Boedker scored late in the 2nd to tie it. In the 3rd, Vrbata scored early but the Wild came right back to snatch the momentum away before PHX had one of their crazy periods. The effort was short lived as Boedker struck once again with 5 minutes left and the Yotes held off the last minute effort and none other than Shane Doan added the insurance to send the Coyotes ...
